Conservationists, who have long called for the end of whale and dolphin entertainment shows, welcomed the move.

Cathy Williamson, who leads the End Captivity program at the Whale and Dolphin Conservat

ion charity group, said: “The world’s first whale sanctuary represents a pathway to the end of the keep

ing of whales and dolphins confined for entertainment. We are proud to be a partner of this important project that will improve welfare for these belugas, and sh

ow the world that there is an alternative to whale and dolphin captivity.”

The bay where the whales will now live, which is around 32,000 square meters and up to 10 meters

deep, has been netted off to ensure the whales cannot escape, given that they likely would not sur

vive in the wild. The bay was chosen for its natural sub-Arctic environment, which resembles belugas’ usual habitat.

The PBOC is going to combine benchmark bank inte

erest rates and t上海贵族宝贝女神会所he short-term money market rate, said Huang, and the seven-da

y repo rate may finally be chosen as the policy rate. “The benchmark rates will eventually be removed.”

“When that happens depends on whether banks’ lending and deposit rates can efficiently and qu

ickly respond to the changes in the policy rates-that is something we need to work on,” he said.

In the first quarter, the central bank urged commercial banks to extend more loans and lower the lending rates for sma

ll and private businesses. A more difficult reform is pushing forward market-based interest rate reforms.

In light of the trade tensions, the RMB exchange rate will be more flexible, Huang

said. As for the money flowing in and out of China, Huang said he thinks the control should be loosened, “but th

ere are still some areas we are not feeling comfortable leaving the doors wide open”.

hile the United Kingdom remains deeply divided over Br

ded over Brexit, most agree that it will shape the future of the United Kingdom for generations to come.

Pro-Europeans fear Brexit will undermine London’s position as one of the world’s top two financial capitals and weake

n the West as it grapples with Donald Trump’s unpredictable US presidency and growing assertiveness from Russia and China.

The Liberal Democrats, who campaigned under the slogan “Bollocks to Brexit”, oppose Brexit and want a second referendum to stop it.

The loss of Britain for the EU is the biggest blow yet to more than 60

years of efforts to forge European unity after two world wars, though the 27 other me

mbers of the bloc have shown surprising unity during the tortuous negotiations.

The China-US trade disputes have significantly influe

enced the renminbi’s performance, said Wang Shengzu, co-head of Investment Strategy Group Asia Goldman Sachs.

But the currency is unlikely to slip out of a reasonable range, assuming there is no big shock from the trade talks, Wang said.

As a sound base for a stable renminbi, “the Chinese economy has shown sig

ns of bouncing up, shown by the faster-than-expected growth of industrial output, ret

ail sales, and credit in the first quarter, and this means that economic activity is improving with supportive pol

icies”, said Wang.Liu Shiyu, China’s former top securities regulator, was under investigation for alleged violations of

This facial recognition app tells one panda from another

Having trouble discerning one furry panda from another? A facial recognition app will make it easy for you.

The app is developed by the China Conservation and Research Center for Giant Pandas

along with researchers in Singapore Nanyang Technological university and Sichuan Normal University.

The image analysis research kicked off in 2017. A database now contains about 120,000 images and 10,000 video clips of giant pandas.

Close to 10,000 panda pictures have been analyzed, marked and annotated.

Using the database, researchers are able to carry out automa

tic facial recognition on panda faces to tell one animal from another, the center said.

Luckin, a Starbucks rival in China, rises in US stock debut

Shares of Luckin Coffee, a fast-growing rival to Starbucks in China, rose 20 percent in their US stock market debut Friday.

The Chinese company, which opened its first store in Beijing less than two years ago, has 2,370

locations and plans to surpass the 3,700 stores Starbucks has in China by the end of the year.

But unlike Starbucks, Luckin is losing money.

It brought in $125 million in revenue last year, but spent much more than

that on coffee beans, store rent and other costs. Last year, it lost $475 million.

Most of Luckin’s stores are small, have few seats and are used mainly as a place to pick up mobile orders.

It also offers delivery in 30 minutes and promises a refund for delays or spilled drinks.

Beijing still open to talks, but will not bow to tariffs: China Daily

ith China retaliating in kind to the United States hiking the existing “punitive” tariffs on Chinese go

ods, the world was not left long in suspense wondering how Beijing would react to Washington putt

ing the kibosh on what was evidently an impending trade deal in such a high-handed manner.

With hindsight, it is easy to see that despite the product

ive efforts of the two negotiating teams, such a scenario was perhaps inevitable.

The US administration has made it clear on more than one occasion

that it wants to halt China‘s development in its tracks and therefore it is questionable whether it

has any real interest in striking a trade deal that is not tilted entirely to its advantage.

While Beijing, on its part, has consistently responded to Washin

gton’s attempts to turn the screws on it by each time giving it a sharp rap across the knuckles.

All of my knowledge and expertise in the space field

“I want to learn how to combine these technologies and do some research here in Beijing, s

Each of Venezuela’s three satellites-one communication and two r
